4/12/2023 0 Comments Salomon sense ride 4 reviews![]() ![]() Bottom line, they have been a very pleasant surprise for me so far. This same design had failed on my Sense Pro 3 and the S/lab Cross shoes. The only thing that I am a bit uncertain of are the webbing loops the laces are running through. They don't shine in any particular area but do everything pretty well. Sizing is consistent with the majority of the Salomon shoes. The durability of both the top material and the soles seems to be very good with no excessive wear after some 300 km if any appreciable wear at all. They fit my narrow heels and moderately wide mid and forefoot quite well even if the heel retention is not quite as secure as with the, let's say, Sense 8 shoes but probably pretty close to my old Sense PRO 3's. To my surprise though this does not seem to be a big issue with these shoes and I am able to use them for moderately technical mountain trails as well. I have ankles stability issues after multiple poorly treated injuries in my youth and was kind of apprehensive of the, comparing to the older s/lab lineup, higher heel stack. I planned to use them for dirt/gravel road running. I purchased these after a rather disappointing experience with my s/lab Ultra 3 shoes (sole durability) just to save my other more pricey shoes from a premature wear. For serious trail runners who love a more minimal feel and have the joy of narrow feet, it’s a perfect shoe. The Salomon Sense Pro 4 is an awesome shoe if you’re in it for the long haul. I really sympathize with anyone with a wider foot though because the rock-hard, non-stretchy lacing again only exacerbates the problem. The speed of lacing plus never having to worry about it coming undone is a load off my mind. The Sense Pro 4 offers “Sensifit” strapping with has a very tuned feel around the foot and really adds to the responsiveness of the ride. The kevlar lacing system is a nice touch in my opinion. Lacing can either make it better or worse The problem with the Sense Pro 4 is that the hard synthetic upper means there is no stretch in the material, so there’s really nowhere for your foot to go. The Sense Pro 4 is no different from many of Salomon’s lineup they don’t accommodate any extra millimeters of width. The more running shoes I test, and the more reviews I see, the luckier I feel to have narrow feet. The Salomon Sense Pro 4 fit great, for some That being said that's still a fair deal lighter than it could be, especially for the amount of grip and midsole on offer (a lot of the lighter shoes out there are the minimalist or barefoot shoes. At 9.6oz (272g) it's just around the average weight of a running shoe. Could be lighterīeing essentially a racing shoe, Salomon Sense Pro 4 should be a bit lighter than it is. On the plus side, it’s incredibly breathable, so any water that goes in doesn’t stay for long. It’s also terrible at insulating against the cold, so bear that in mind. While sturdy, the upper material is thin enough and has enough gaps to let in lots of water. ![]() You’ll have to be ready for the cold and wet though… Your browser does not support the video tag. Looking at it, the Sense 4 Pro is definitely a minimalist shoe, focusing on speed and responsiveness over plush padding. The Salomon Sense 4 Pro offers focused cushioning To be honest, I didn’t notice it too much, this shoe has a fair bit of ground feel, but not too much to worry me on sharper rocks. Instead of a rock plate, Salomon has used their ‘Profeel Film’. The 8mm heel-to-toe drop offers a little extra cushioning for heel strikers while promoting a sensitive yet comfortable ride. ![]() It features a ContraGrip outsole with 4mm lugs that bite down on most surfaces. Salomon has gone a long way to ensure the durability of the outsole and the lugs, and the entire piece is made of rubber to help with this. The Salomon Sense Ride 4 is a durable and well-protected cross-over trail runner. I had no issues with traction while testing these on snowy and wet days in the Scottish woodlands. With deep 4.3mm lugs, this shoe is built to take you where you want to go, no matter what’s in you’re way.
